Kensuke's Kingdom
Year 6 English teaching resources: Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
Our Kensuke's Kingdom resource contains a 139-slide PowerPoint presentation and 30 pages of worksheets.
The range of activities in this unit of work are intended to suggest opportunities for reading and writing using the novel Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo which can be used both in English and across the curriculum. There are web links to extend and enrich children’s learning and teachers will identify many opportunities arising from these activities such as art and craft work (origami, the art of Hokusai); links to RE (Zen and Shinto religions); the study of Japan; astronomy; habitats; World War 2; mountains and many more. It is usually used as a transition unit of work but can easily be adapted to be used to fit in with other requirements.
Kensuke's Kingdom is a unit of work where all activities covered are structured chronologically. Teachers can use the resource as it is or select from and adapt the activities to meet the needs of the children they teach.
